Release of Pre-recorded Day 1 Sessions

Climate Wayfinding in Community

Dr. Katherine Wilkinson, featured by Time Magazine as one of the 15 “women who will save the world,” lays out how leadership needs to change at three levels, and how “What can I do?” in the climate crisis is most productively converted into “What can we do?” She speaks to a world beyond “us” and “them”, cultivating small groups as fertile soil for action, and tapping into the coursing energy of life itself and the ferocious power of love.

Busting the Myths of the Climate Crisis

This engaging conversation between Roshi Joan Halifax and Christiana Figueres, the UN leader who successfully negotiated the Paris Climate Treaty, takes aim at the myths that surround inactivity and despair regarding the climate crisis. Christiana also shares her process for listening and the magic that comes from it, and Roshi Joan reminds us how we can apply the 5 steps of GRACE.

An Autistic Politics for Climate Change

Fresh and creative, Bayo Akomolafe jolts us into approaching the crises that haunt us, including climate, with a politics of surprise, a sideling intelligence, a sensory aliveness where we let ourselves get generously lost, rather than trying to fix or tear down current systems. Sharing stories of how his son’s autism inspired him to rethink the way we face issues, he invites us beyond activism, into playing in the spaces in between, and slowing down to explore the cracks within and around us.

Perma Leadership for the Work of Our Time

What might replace conventional leadership that can actually use the stress and volatility of the climate crisis to create a better world? Join two of the founders of the Perma Leadership project as they explore the dynamic, 4-stage cycle of Perma Leadership, how it’s different, where it’s already happening, and how to make it your own.

Perma Leadership: A regenerative cycle for creating a thriving world

This welcoming session reviews the themes of the summit with focus on the cycle of Perma Leadership, not as a thought, but as a one-with experience from which inspiration arises and action follows. You’ll learn how you can ”ride” the Perma Leadership cycle to connect, reimagine, energize, and realize healing in the world around you. We’ll review the different summit experiences that can help you further explore your place in the work and practices and people who can help you. We’ll also tee-up a process for harvesting the “earth promises” you may feel inspired to make and how they may coalesce into a collective pledge.

Journalist, documentarian and eco-restoration expert, John Liu shares his journey to recognizing the self-replicating and eternal nature of ecosystems, the wonder and meaningfulness of restoring damaged ecosystems, and the power of vivid dreaming. Release of Pre-recorded Day 4 Sessions

Creating Pockets of Healing in the Climate Crisis

Kosha Joubert reveals how trauma both lies at the root of the climate crisis, as well as creates a ceiling to our ability to respond to it.  Learn how that ceiling can be lifted as we do the deep work of building awareness and shining its light in the dark places of our contracting triggers, and how we can support one another in deep listening and social witnessing, catalyzing new layers of responsiveness.

Climate Change and Human Health

Drs Robert and Lori Byron had an epiphany about a dozen years ago that “if we don’t do something about climate change, it won’t matter what we do in the exam room,” and have since worked tirelessly to bring climate resources, practices and organizational support to health practitioners and their patients. They recount practical things that even busy health providers can do and the power of listening to find common ground with their patients.

Climate action for a low-carbon society: largest health opportunity of the century?

Dr. Patz shares insights from his 15 years as lead author on the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.  He summarizes the science around the health effects of climate change and what we have to do to convert the greatest public health crisis of our time into the greatest opportunity. From actions at the dinner table to the policy table, he shows where every one of us has agency in moving toward a low-carbon economy and, better still, how we can do it together.

Resilience in the Climate Crisis

Meditation teacher and social entrepreneur, Fleet Maull realized the radical empowerment of taking 100% ownership for his own life through the fire of 14 years in prison, from which he started two non-profits and a life of service. He speaks to trust in the innate goodness of people and radical responsibility in being able to move beyond shame and blame to create resilience and healing amidst the climate crisis. What’s more, our own resilience becomes a good measure of when we’re on the right track.

Answering Your Calling and Creating a Leadership Body

Whether you’ve found or are still discovering your leadership role in healing the world around you, this session will take you through a practice to help you embody (“give body to”) your deepest callings and bring them to life. Explaining the science behind somatic plasticity, Barry Robbins guides you into an experience of embodying thoughts and feelings into an action-oriented leadership body.

Leaping to Thrive in Chaotic Times

In this engaging interview, two seasoned Zen teachers share what it means to leap toward the future of your thriving imagination and what has to happen in the body to make the leap at the moment of opportunity.  You’ll learn the power of “just enough,” a handful as a nourishing practice, and what it means to get a handle on things in the 5-3-1 rule.

Personal Body and Environmental Body

Embodiment teacher, Mark Walsh shares how embodiment helps us “look at that which we don’t want to look at and handle that which is difficult.” He shares his experience co-regulating with nature and a practice for shifting between one’s personal body and the environment body on a sensory-aware walk. Cautioning against working ourselves up into fight-flight trauma and crisis-driven extremes of activity, Mark reminds us of the need for play and light-heartedness.

Overwhelmed by Urgency? Slow Your Roll.

The more we recognize the climate emergency, the more we may try to step on the accelerator to do as much as we can as fast as we can. Dr. Amanda Blake takes us inside the nervous system to understand why that’s a failed strategy and why slowing down is essential to catching the wave where we can move with life and nature in its healing. How can you tell the difference between knowing in your head about the climate crisis and a felt sense that brings wisdom into your day-to-day movements? Mandy shares a practice for that and you won’t want to miss it.

Leading as a Part of Nature - Our Path to Net Zero

In this interactive session, Andres and Din will share their extensive, nature-based experiences and insights on the leadership needed to ensure a Net Zero future.  Posing the question: How would nature change leadership? they explore the inner work that needs to be done to connect leaders to the critical outer work of our time, that is, learning how to lead as a part of nature and not apart from it.  Building off the foundation of this embodied work, they pivot into the urgency for leaders to scale transformation at speed and provide some practical tips for thriving in highly complex systemic change.

Convergence and Action

Join host, Ginny Whitelaw in creating a weave of the summit, highlighting the integrating themes and key takeaways, helping you pull the week together for yourself and solidify commitments. She’ll be joined by fellow host, Kelly Bannister, to reveal where we’ve landed with our personal earth promises and collective pledge.

You @ Future

Zen teacher and futurist, Rebecca Ryan Roshi leads you on a journey through the Perma Leadership cycle of connecting and reimagining a future you would choose to create, feeling into the future self who can realize that vision, and how you can step into that future today. Join in this exploration of how we make the world, starting with our breath and posture.

Closing Ceremony

How we end is also how we begin what’s next.  This ceremony, powered by Zen and Indigenous traditions and wisdom, aims to send you off with great energy, confidence, and joy.  As we fan out to all the corners of the earth, we’ll remain one-with one another and our commitments to healing.
